Essential Skills
Carrie Wakeford completed the "Profiling Occupational Essential Skills Certificate" through Bow Valley College. She has completed Essential Skills interviews that will be used by Service Canada to expand their database and website. She interviewed workers, gathered information, wrote and categorized the material and entered the results into an Access database.
Carrie has integrated Essential Skills into the training programs she has designed. This includes the development of an online Essential Skills training component to assist people in deciding on a career direction. She has also designed a series of "Literacy and Essential Skills in Industrial Arts" courses.
She has participated in the Alberta Workforce Essential Skills Society (AWES) workshop entitled "A Process Model for Integrating Workplace Essential Skills into Curricula" and she completed training in "Educational and Essential Skills Assessment". Recently Carrie attended the national "Essential Skills in Instruction" conference.
She has used the National Occupational Classification extensively and has rewritten profiles for presentation to a younger audience.
